What has possessed you? (22 June)

Dear Friends,

We have an unusual gospel this week (from Luke, Chapter 8). One of the commentaries I’ve read used the heading ‘The Madman and the Pigs’. No theological nuance there. This is a story of demonic possession, not given credibility in contemporary society. However, a fruitful way to explore this gospel is to look at the forces of our culture that ‘possess’ us. Mobile phones and social media spring to mind.

This gospel brings us a comforting message. It indicates that Jesus meets those in need wherever they are. That includes us in the messiness of our lives.

What a joy it was to meet together last Sunday to hear from Canon Christopher. When I looked at the numbers in church, I realised that the number was exactly the same that I see week by week. But I see you in two different settings! What a wonderful feeling of solidarity there was in being together on this occasion. Thank you to Ken for all his preparation of delicious soups.

With love and blessings,

Linda
