How do we know? (25 May)
Dear Friends,
Our Gospel this week (found in John, Chapter 14) brings both reassurance as well as an issue to ponder. In my sermon this week I will be addressing the theme of Discernment. How do we know God’s presence is with us? I will look at the Ignatian methodology and the Examen prayer.
The different pathways to knowing God are much in evidence as the Diocese of Melbourne gathers to elect a new Archbishop. The primacy of the Word for Evangelicals and the Sacraments for Anglo-Catholics are clear points of distinction. However, our task as the people of God is to work towards inclusion and generosity in the Spirit. This is no time for an either/or approach. Neither expression of Anglicanism is ‘correct’. Rather, an appreciation of both forms of expression is vital if we want to include all and encourage understanding. Hopefully we will soon have a new Shepherd for our diocese.
With love and blessings,
Linda
